Abstract

Concrete is an extensively used construction material worldwide. There are aspects that need to be considered when we aim to use concrete in sustainable construction. The presentation will discuss the need to consider aspects such as mechanical integrity, durability, carbon footprint and embodied energy in the assessment of the sustainability of a concrete mix. Further, the assessment should lead a decision-making framework that would enable the choice of the best mix for a project.  The use of Environmental Product Declarations (EPDs) and Materials Passports in the planning of resources and comparison of materials would be introduced.
